In yet another adaptation of their classic game, Mattel Studios is bringing a live-action adaptation of Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots game which will be written and headlined by Vin Diesel. He will also be backing the film under his One Race Films banner.

The film, first announced in 2021, will see characters Red Rocker and Blue Bomber playing the lead as seen in the tabletop boxing game. Further details on the cast and plot are not yet known.

Expressing his excitement, Diesel said in a statement, "I am excited to expand the Mattel universe by bringing this classic toy from my childhood to a modern audience by telling a story that examines the role of competition in a world often measured by strength and dominance that dares to reveal the power of compassion at its core."

After Barbie movie, animated feature in development at Illumination and Mattel Studios

Robbie Brenner, President of Mattel Studios and Chief Content Officer called Vin a "powerhouse storyteller" with an unmatched "understanding of action, heart, and world-building." He added, "His creative vision for Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots is bold, human, and deeply cinematic—exactly the kind of storytelling we love at Mattel Studios."

Following the record-breaking success of Barbie at Warner Bros in 2023, becoming the studio’s top-grossing film with $1.44 billion, Mattel Studios is gearing up for its next major release: a live-action Masters of the Universe movie in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios, slated for a June 5, 2026 theatrical debut. Also arriving next year is Matchbox, produced with Apple Original Films and featuring John Cena in the lead.
