Guy Pearce, who recently received an Academy Award nomination for his role in The Brutalist, is in talks to star as media magnate Rupert Murdoch in the Danny Boyle-directed Ink.

The film, backed by Studiocanal, Media Res and House Productions, will revolve around Murdoch's journey to power. The role of Larry Lamb, the late editor of The Sun, is being circled by Jack O'Connell. Producers of the film include Boyle, Tessa Ross, Michael Ellenberg, Tracey Seaward and Ronia Davis.

James Graham, who adapted Boyle's eponymous play that opened in 2017 in London, is writing the script for Ink. Set in 1969, the film will show how Rupert Murdoch acquires the struggling newspaper The Sun and appoints Lamb to run it. The film's production is planned to commence in October.

Pearce starred alongside Adrien Brody in The Brutalist, for which he was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar. Coming up, he has Ned Crowley's supernatural thriller Killing Faith, Simon Stone's psychological thriller The Woman in Cabin 10, and Ridley Scott's post-apocalyptic science fiction The Dog Stars.

O'Connel was last seen in Boyle's last directed film, 28 Years Later. He also had a memorable role in Sinners earlier this year. Next, he has the sequel, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, and Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.

Danny Boyle's latest film, 28 Years Later, hits theatres in June, continuing the franchise that began with his 2002 film 28 Days Later. The film, starring Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, and Idris Elba, has grossed over $150 million worldwide.
