Jenna Ortega, the titular star of Wednesday and Nevermore Academy is once again set to enter the dreaded school. This time, with more challenges. Despite the series returning for its second season after three full years, the popularity of Wednesday and its characters continue to live among audiences. Most importantly, for months together, fans couldn't get enough of Wednesday's dance from the first season.
Speaking about the virality of the dance and its global reach, Jenna Ortega explained that it was "very unexpected". "Oftentimes, you make these jobs and you never know what will come of them, or if anyone will watch them. So, the reception and excitement for what we worked on and accomplished here in season one is just something that I'm very grateful for and it still surprises me," she said, speaking to Hindustan Times, in an exclusive interview.
She also reflected on the spotlight she had received since the show's massive success and how it changed her personal life. Sharing how she has been grateful, she said, "It's such a pleasure as you hope that you're able to connect with people when you do these things and maybe it matters to someone, and it does."
Ortega mentioned how she has been finding a balance between her work and fame, and pressures of the industry. "It's been a great change and one that takes a lot of getting accustomed to, but I also think it's good to not fully succumb to that. So, it's interesting finding the balance, but ultimately I just kind of try to not put that pressure on the show and go about my daily life the way that suits me best. It's a learning curve for sure, but it's been a great education," she revealed.
Slated to debut on Netflix on August 6 with the first part, the second season stars Isaac Ordonez, Victor Dorobantu, Luis Guzman, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Joonas Suotomo, and Emma Myers who are reprising their roles from the first season. Joanna Lumley and Steve Buscemi are the new entrants.
The recently-released trailer showcased Wednesday Adams realising she had gained some obsessive fans after the events of season one. She then dreams about her roommate Enid dying, for which she will be blamed. Wednesday then seeks the help of her grandmother, Grandmama Hester Frump for her tribulations.
The series is based on Charles Addams' original characters, The Addams Family, which first appeared in The New Yorker. Several adaptations of the characters have been made, with the most recent one before the TV series being the animated films starring Charlize Theron as Morticia Addams.
The second part of Wednesday season 2 is releasing on September 3.
