Actor Lindsay Lohan, who is awaiting the release of Freakier Friday with Jamie Lee Curtis, has opened up about being typecast because of the roles she has taken up in the past.

Lindsay has been active in the entertainment industry since the age of 10. After her debut in the soap opera Another World, she earned fame for playing dual roles in the 1998 hit film The Parent Trap. Her notable roles include leads in Mean Girls, Freaky Friday, Herbie Fully Loaded and Just My Luck, among others which fall in the genre of comedy entertainers and rom-coms.

In an interview with The Times UK, she revealed how growing up in the public eye has affected her life and career. She explained, "Yeah, I do (think I was pigeonholed). I was so thrilled to work on A Prairie Home Companion and yet even today I have to fight for stuff that is like that, which is frustrating. Because, well, you know me as this — but you also know I can do that."

Lohan is desperate to "break the cycle" and open doors. "So let me! Give me the chance. I have to break that cycle and open doors to something else, leaving people no choice. And in due time, if Martin Scorsese reaches out, I’m not going to say no," she said.

As she climbed the Hollywood ranks, the movie star took a brief career hiatus during the 2000s. Lohan explained why she decided to step outside of the spotlight.

She noted how she was losing the feeling of excitement of working on varied roles. "I wanted to take a minute. I was losing that feeling of excitement about doing a film, and I wanted to live my own life for a bit, figure out how to have a more private life, a real life. I wanted to wait to get that itch again," she added.

On the workfront, she will return to big screens with Freakier Friday, directed by Nisha Ganatra from a script by Jordan Weiss. The much-awaited sequel to the 2003 fantasy comedy film is slated for a release in theatres on August 8. 2025.

At the Los Angeles premiere of the film, Lohan shared that moving forward in her career, she would " like to take on some more serious, dramatic roles," further noting that she felt a bit of pressure to stick to the rom-com genre.

Returning cast members also include Mark Harmon, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao. The new cast members on Freakier Friday are Julia Butters, Jordan E Cooper, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, and Sophia Hammons.

Based on Mary Rodgers's 1972 novel of the same name, it is the third adaptation of the same story and fifth installment overall in the Freaky Friday franchise.
