Mark Ruffalo to return as Hulk in Spider-Man: Brand New Day? Here's what we know

Mark Ruffalo is in talks to reprise his much-acclaimed role as Bruce Banner aka Incredible Hulk in Marvel for Tom Holland's Spider-Man: Brand New Day. If confirmed, he will join a star-studded ensemble cast featuring Zendaya and Jacob Batalon who are reprising their roles as MJ and Ned, Liza Colon-Zayas, and Sadie Sink. Jon Bernthal is also coming back as Punisher.

Although his entry to the new Spider-Man film had been rumoured, the speculations are slowly turning to be true as the film is gearing up to begin production this month in England.

Another noted Spider-Man character is also slated to come back for Brand New Day. Michael Mando, known for Better Call Saul is reprising his role as the villain Scorpion whom he first played in the first Tom Holland Spider-Man film Spider-Man: Homecoming.

This is not the first time veteran actors have been paired with Holland. His mentor figures in the Spider-Man films include his connection wih Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark in Homecoming and the Avengers movies; Samuel L Jackson’s Nick Fury in Far From Home; Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man characters in No Way Home.

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse gets new release date

While Mark Ruffalo's Hulk is yet to get a standalone film, he had appeared in many many Marvel films including Avengers: Age of Ultron, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. He was also seen in multiple episodes of the Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and had a cameo in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings whose director Destin Daniel Cretton is helming Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has a screenplay written by Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna. Details about the plot of the upcoming instalment are undisclosed. The upcoming film is backed by Amy Pascal and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and is scheduled to release in theatres on July 31, 2026.
