The 28th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced today, with a star-studded ceremony held at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. The annual award function is held to honour the best works in the film and TV industry.

The opening ceremony of the show was commenced by Hamilton actors Daveed Diggs, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Leslie Odom Jr. During his speech, Odom Jr paid tribute to Ukraine amid the Russian invasion. "While tonight is a celebration, we are all at the same time holding a place in our hearts for the people of Ukraine and sending our thoughts, prayers and hopes for impending peace," he said.

This year, CODA was awarded the best film award, making it the first film with a predominantly deaf cast to receive the award. Additionally, the star of the film Troy Kotsur made history by becoming the first deaf actor to win an individual prize. Actor Marlee Matlin, who received the best film award, and Kotsur gave their respective speeches using a sign-language interpreter.

Meanwhile, Netflix's Korean hit series Squid Game made history by winning the Outstanding Action Performance as a Stunt Ensemble category as the first non-English show to do so. It also made history by winning Outstanding Performance by a Male and Female Actor in a Drama series categories for Lee Jung-Jae and Jung Ho-yeon, respectively.

Hollywood legend Helen Mirren was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the ceremony. "I joined our tribe of vagabonds a long time ago but I want to thank you, the actors, for your wit and laughter - I have laughed my whole life. Your intelligence and incredible energy and hopeless dedication to our chosen profession," said the actor during her speech.

Will Smith won the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role award for his role in King Richard, while Jessica Chastain won the best female actor award under the same category for The Eyes of Tammy Faye.

Kate Winslet won the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries award for her acclaimed performance in Mare of Easttown, while Michael Keaton won the best male actor award under the same category for Dopesick.
