The dim-lit trailer of Bhoot – Part One: The Haunted Ship opens with a ship, Sea Bird, washing up on the beaches of Mumbai. A surveying officer, Prithvi (Vicky), is sent in to investigate. He’s batmanned by a wall-climbing ghost, dragged across clunky hunks of metal, and left to fend for himself in the abandoned vessel.
Ashutosh Rana — doing that husky voice from Raaz — tells Prithvi he isn’t hallucinating but is haunted by a bura saya (evil shadow). Prithvi is hell-bent, though, digging deep into the mysteries of Sea Bird. To thicken the plot, we see a young couple fooling around on deck (they never learn, do they?) and a small kid riding a tricycle. The Shining, much?
Talking about the film, Vicky says, “We are all scared of horror films except our director. I never thought I would do a horror film, but when I read the script and was so scared that I had to do it.”
Producer Karan Johar adds, “Horror is a popular genre worldwide. But I am proud to say that Bhoot is first of its kind in India.”
Bhoot – Part One: The Haunted Ship is directed by debutant Bhanu Pratap Singh. The horror-thriller stars Bhumi Pednekar as the female lead.
Co-produced by Dharma Productions and Zee Studios, the film is scheduled for release on February 21.
