Devil Trailer Out: Murder, conspiracy, espionage stir this pre-Independence era entertainer to a fever pitch

The official trailer of Devil, also titled Devil - The British Secret Agent, was unveiled on Tuesday. The trailer comes days after the announcement of its new release date. Originally scheduled to release on November 24, the film is now hitting theatres on December 29, alongside the Ravikanth Perepu film, Bubblegum. 

Devil stars Kalyanram Nandamuri, Samyuktha, Malavika Nair, Satya, Shafique, Srikanth Iyyengar, Ajay and Edward Sonnenblick, among others. Iranian-origin actor and danseuse Elnaaz Nourouzi is also a part of the film, playing a cabaret dancer. Devil will mark Elnaaz’s Telugu debut. 

Devil is Malavika’s and Samyuktha’s third film of 2023. While Malavika starred in Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi and Anni Manchi Sakanumule, Samyuktha was seen in Sir and Virupaksha. Kalyanram was last seen in 2022’s Bimbisara. The actor announced at the trailer launch event that Bimbisara 2 is in the works. 

The trailer opens us to pre-independence India. The murder of a young girl brings a detective, played by Nandamuri Kalyanram, to the scene. As he begins to unravel the mystery with his trusted aide played by Satya, we are shown glimpses of other key actors in the film. A deeper conspiracy unearths in the course of the investigation, as we are informed that events that will change the course of history shall unfold. Kalyanram is immediately entrusted to lead a secret operation titled Operation Tiger-hunt. After a showreel of action sequences, Kalyanram is seen declaring that he is a lion and not a dog. 

Visual effects supervisor turned filmmaker Naveen Medaram has been initially credited as the director of Devil. His name has inconspicuously been missing from the credits, with producer Devansh Nama also being credited as the film’s director. Devil is written by Srikanth Vissa, whose credits include Ravanasura and Tiger Nageswara Rao earlier this year. Harshvardhan Rameshwar, whose work in Animal has captured national attention, is the music composer of Devil. Sounder Rajan S is the film’s cinematographer, with editing and production design provided by Tammiraju and Gandhi Nadikudikar, respectively.
