Another actor is now turning director. After Vishwak Sen, Ram Pothineni, and Kiran Abbavaram, Kartikeya Gummakonda has joined the list of actors making their directorial debuts.
Kartikeya made a sensational debut with RX 100 and went on to feature in several films, including a negative role in Nani’s Gang Leader. He also made his Tamil debut with Valimai, starring Ajith Kumar.
The actor has been away from the limelight for the last two years, with no major updates about his upcoming projects. Now, he has surprised everyone by announcing that he is all set to make his comeback with a film titled Comeback. Interestingly, he is not only playing the lead role but is also making his directorial debut with the film.
Kartikeya Gummakonda is one of the talented young actors in Tollywood and is also known for his dedication to fitness. He earned huge praise for his standout performance in RX 100. Apart from playing lead roles, he has also made an impact as a versatile actor, playing a stylish villainous role in Nani’s Gang Leader and winning appreciation from Tamil audiences with his performance in Ajith Kumar’s Valimai.
It has been over two years since his last film, and Kartikeya is now ready to make his return. The actor announced Comeback on the occasion of his birthday, on September 21. A special glimpse of the film was also released.
In an interesting move, Comeback also marks Kartikeya’s directorial debut. The film is being produced under the Kartikeya Creative Works banner, with his wife Lohitha Reddy serving as the producer.
The glimpse suggests that Kartikeya will be seen playing a boxer in the film. The video uses a voice-over that raises questions about the character and his mysterious absence from the boxing world.
“It’s been three years since we heard his name in the boxing world, and we thought he might have moved on to a different profession by now. You actually remember that it’s been three years? I didn’t even realise that... But what is he going to do now, after all this time? Yeah... that’s true. In a way, it feels like a suicide mission. We don’t know what he has been up to for the past three years. What has he been doing all this time?” says the voice-over in the glimpse.
The film is presented by Saraswathi Shukla, while Jagadeesh Cheekati is handling the cinematography. Vijay Bulganin is composing the music, and Surya Akella is the creative director. Lohitha Reddy is producing the film.
