Celebrity interviews often become a subject of online scrutiny, with viewers dissecting not just what stars say but also their expressions, gestures and even the way they sit. In the age of social media, a fleeting moment can quickly become the basis for sweeping conclusions about a public figure’s personality or relationships.
The latest episode of Koffee With Karan 9 featuring Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna has become a talking point for precisely this reason. The couple’s conversation about their relationship and marriage prompted a wave of online reactions, with some viewers questioning Vijay’s attitude towards his wife and branding him a “red flag”.
Vijay has now responded indirectly by sharing a satirical reel that pokes fun at people who overanalyse celebrity behaviour. Reposting the video on his Instagram Story, the actor added the caption, “Needs subtitles. Regional languages lo.”
The sketch features a couple watching the talk-show episode, with the woman interpreting ordinary details as warning signs. Vijay sitting on the right side of the sofa, for instance, is presented as proof that he always wants to be right. When she notices that a coffee cup is placed near him rather than Rashmika, she concludes that he should have offered his wife coffee. Her companion suggests that Rashmika might not drink coffee, but she speculates that the offer could have been removed during editing.
The reel also takes aim at the criticism surrounding Vijay’s remarks about marriage. When he says that the one rule of marriage is to agree with one’s wife, the woman in the sketch labels the comment narcissistic and patriarchal. Asked to explain her reasoning, she dismisses the question by insisting that it is a red flag anyway. The sketch further pokes fun at online discussions about Vijay not following Rashmika on Instagram.
Meanwhile, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who worked with Vijay in Arjun Reddy and Rashmika in Animal, has now gone viral for liking a reel of comedian Aishwarya Mohanraj on Instagram. In the reel, the comedian is seen caricaturing and criticising Rashmika and Vijay Deverakondra with satire. The comic herself shared that Sandeep liked the reel, prompting questions from netizens about his support for Vijay Deverakonda.
The backlash began after clips from the couple’s appearance circulated online. One particular exchange drew attention when Rashmika recalled asking Vijay to marry her repeatedly over the course of a year. Vijay said he had asked her to ask him “100 times” before he agreed. The anecdote led some viewers to accuse him of being dismissive, while others felt the conversation was being taken out of context.
