Sumanth Prabhas and Nidhi Pradeep played the lead pair in Godari Gattupaina, which was released on May 8. The film marked the directorial debut of Subash Chandra and was produced by Abhinav Rao. While the film received mixed reviews, the film continued to draw in audiences and performed well.
As part of the film’s success celebrations, the team recently organised a thanks meet and revealed that the film collected ₹ 8.5 crore gross within ten days and is still performing steadily at the box office.
The recently released Godari Gattupaina is Sumanth Prabhas' second release. The actor made his debut with the 2023 film Mem Famous.
When asked whether waiting for three years and rejecting nearly 80 scripts for this film was worth it, Sumanth answered confidently. “Yes, absolutely. I wanted to do a different genre and also establish myself as an actor. My debut film was mostly watched by audiences only in Telangana, but this film connected strongly in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. When we toured several places in Andhra, the reception we received was overwhelming. This film truly introduced me to a new audience,” he said.
Sumanth also recalled an emotional moment during the film’s release. “My film was releasing after three years, and one of my friends asked me, ‘Will anyone even buy a ticket for the film?’ That question hurt me a little. But when we started visiting theatres and touring villages, the kind of energy we witnessed was unbelievable. Watching theatres packed with families gave us immense happiness,” he shared.
The actor added that young audiences connected strongly with the film. “This film took me into every household and introduced me to a wider audience base. I would like to thank director Subash Chandra on this occasion. Seeing the audience response has been truly overwhelming,” he said.
Sharing one memorable incident from the promotional tour, Sumanth spoke about an elderly woman he met in Andhra Pradesh. “During our tour, I asked an old woman whether she watches films regularly. She told me that she had never watched a film in a theatre in her entire life. But she came to watch Godari Gattupaina because the story is set around the Godavari region. Hearing that made me very happy. Moments like these make all the hard work worthwhile,” he said.
Sumanth also credited producer Abhinav Rao for the film’s continued theatrical run. “The film is still running houseful in several places, and that is possible because of producer Abhinav. Every young filmmaker deserves a producer like him. He constantly encouraged and supported us throughout this journey,” he added.
Expressing satisfaction over the film’s reception, Sumanth concluded, “I feel very peaceful and happy with the result this film has achieved. I would like to thank all my friends who stood by me and worked hard for me. My heartfelt thanks to all our actors and technicians as well. The film is still running in theatres, and I request those who haven’t watched it yet to definitely go and watch it.”
