Anandhi is playing the title role in Garividi Lakshmi, a biographical film based on the life of the legendary folk singer from Uttarandhra. The period drama is produced by TG Vishwa Prasad and his daughter Kriti Prasad under People Media Factory. The film is directed by Gowri Naidu Jammu, with Rag Mayur playing the male lead.
On Tuesday, the makers unveiled a new song, titled 'Koyagura.' Featuring Anandhi and Rag Mayur, the song beautifully recreates the essence of traditional folk music from the Uttarandhra region. With its rustic vibe and energetic choreography, the track brings back memories of classic folk performances.
Garividi Lakshmi was a celebrated figure in Uttarandhra, known for her captivating Burrakatha performances — a traditional Telugu storytelling art form. She travelled across villages, singing and narrating stories that connected deeply with rural audiences, leaving behind a rich cultural legacy.
Earlier, the makers released another song, 'Nala Jilakara Mogga' which was well received. Anandhi’s natural performance in both songs stands out, as she convincingly steps into the shoes of the legendary singer, capturing her spirit and style.
The music for the film is composed by Charan Arjun. The song 'Koyagura' is sung by Ananya Bhat, Shakalaka Shankar, and director Gowri Naidu Jammu. The makers have sourced these songs from Uttarandhra Janapadaalu, a collection of popular regional folk tracks, ensuring authenticity.
Apart from Anandhi and Rag Mayur, the film also features VK Naresh, Raasi, Saranya Pradeep, Ankith Koyya, and Meesa Lakshman in key roles.
Garividi Lakshmi remains a revered name in Uttarandhra, with her songs continuing to resonate with audiences even today. Through this film, the makers aim to bring her inspiring journey and timeless music to a wider audience.
