Actor Allu Arjun appeared virtually before the Nampally Court on Monday in connection with the Sandhya Theatre stampede case linked to the premiere screening of Pushpa 2: The Rule. The matter has now been posted to July after not all the accused were present before the court.
The actor had earlier been directed to appear in person on June 22 after summons were issued in the case. However, Allu Arjun sought permission to attend the proceedings online, citing his ongoing film shoot in Mumbai.
Confirming the development, his legal team stated that the actor had requested exemption from physical appearance due to professional commitments and joined the hearing virtually after the court granted permission.
The case pertains to the stampede that took place during a special screening of Pushpa 2 at Hyderabad’s Sandhya Theatre in December 2024. Police have named a total of 23 accused in the chargesheet, with Arjun listed as Accused No. 11.
Speaking to the media outside court, advocate Bhanu Chander, appearing for members of the theatre management, said the day’s proceedings were related to filing a committal bond in Crime No. 376 of 2024 and PRC No. 260 of 2026. He stated that while most of the accused had appeared, one or two individuals were absent, resulting in the matter being pushed to the next stage of hearing.
According to the advocate, the court has now scheduled the matter for July 6, when all 23 accused are expected to appear together as part of the process before the sessions court proceedings move ahead.
The incident dates back to December 4, 2024, when Allu Arjun, members of his family, and the Pushpa 2 team attended a special show at Sandhya Theatre. During the crowd surge that followed, 35-year-old Revathi died, while her eight-year-old son Sritej sustained serious injuries and was admitted to hospital.
In the aftermath of the incident, Arjun and producer Allu Aravind extended financial support to the family and took responsibility for medical expenses. Members of the film’s team also offered assistance. Earlier this year, Aravind visited the family to enquire about Sritej’s recovery. Arjun was arrested in connection with the case in 2024 and was later released on interim bail.
