Kiran Abbavaram and Sri Gouri Priya played the lead pair in Chennai Love Story, which was released on July 24. The film received mixed reviews, but its box-office collections have been impressive. On its first Sunday, the film collected a net amount of Rs 6.25 crore from 1,853 shows. This is a remarkable collection for a film like Chennai Love Story, which was made on a modest budget.
The film also registered a growth of 13.6 per cent over Saturday, which is a significant jump. It collected Rs 5.50 crore on Saturday, taking its three-day India net total to Rs 16.70 crore. The three-day India gross stands at Rs 19.21 crore. Overseas, the film collected Rs 1 crore on day three, taking its total overseas gross to Rs 4.80 crore. With this, the worldwide gross collection of Chennai Love Story has reached Rs 24.01 crore, which is quite surprising despite the mixed reviews.
Sai Rajesh and SKN jointly produced the film, while Ravi Namburi made his directorial debut with this project. Sai Rajesh also penned the story. Sri Gouri Priya played the female lead and earned appreciation for her performance-oriented role. On the other hand, Kiran Abbavaram is impressive as Steven, with many critics and moviegoers praising his performance.
The film also witnessed a steady rise in occupancy over the weekend. It recorded 41 per cent occupancy on Friday, which increased to 50 per cent on Saturday and further climbed to 58 per cent on Sunday. Now, all eyes are on the weekday performance, as Monday onwards will be the real test for the film at the box office.
The story revolves around Nivi, played by Sri Gouri Priya, who goes through a heartbreak after breaking up with Ajay, played by Thrigun. A depressed Nivi travels to Chennai with her friends, where she meets Steven, an orphan and aspiring director. The two gradually grow close, and Nivi falls in love with him.
