Director Gunasekhar has carved a unique space in Telugu cinema with films like Laati, Sogasu Chooda Tharama, Choodalani Vundi, Manoharam, Okkadu and Rudhramadevi. His last outing, the mythological Shaakuntalam, failed to impress at the box office. Now, the filmmaker is returning with Euphoria, a contemporary drama that introduces several new faces and addresses pressing social issues.

Inspired by true incidents and set against the disturbing backdrop of drugs and crime, Euphoria deals with problems that plague today’s society. The trailer, released recently, promises an intense and raw cinematic experience, highlighted by striking visuals and a serious tone.

Actor Bhumika Chawla plays a key role in the film, while young sensation Sara Arjun of Dhurandhar fame is seen in one of the lead roles. According to the trailer, the story revolves around Chaitra (Sara Arjun), a teenager who dreams of becoming a civil servant. However, her life takes a drastic turn in just one day, pulling her into a world affected by narcotics and crime.

Gunasekhar depicts how substance abuse ruins young lives and leads to grave criminal acts, presenting these issues in a grounded and realistic manner. Bhumika Chawla is seen as a mother whose teenage son commits a crime, and despite being his parent, she does not hesitate to stand for justice. She supports the victim and takes the legal route, adding emotional weight to the narrative.

Gautham Vasudev Menon plays a police commissioner determined to deliver justice. He invokes the POCSO Act against the accused, highlighting the film’s serious social messaging. Along with drugs and crime, Euphoria also touches upon parenting and the responsibilities of parents toward their children.

The film is produced by Gunasekhar’s daughter Neelima, while music is composed by Kaala Bhairava, son of legendary composer MM Keeravani. Speaking about the casting, Gunasekhar said, “We conducted auditions for nearly six months to find the right young actors for the film. Since the story needed fresh faces, we took special care in the selection. When we narrated the story to Raj Arjun, Sara Arjun’s father, he immediately gave his consent.”

Gunasekhar also shared an emotional moment related to the trailer. “I have never seen my daughter Neelima this emotional. That itself shows the impact of the story,” he said.

Euphoria is slated for a theatrical release on February 6, and the director believes the film is suitable for all audiences.
