Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya, starring Naveen Polishetty in the titular role, is regarded as one of Telugu cinema's finest detective films. It gained a greater following during the COVID period, thanks to the proliferation of OTT content across the nation. Meanwhile, there has been some speculation about a sequel to director Swaroop RSJ's 2019 mystery thriller-comedy.
The film ends with the possibility of a second part, and speculation about it hit a fever pitch in the recent past. However, director Swaroop said at a recent event that the film's production banner Swadharm Entertainment would make a formal announcement about the Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya sequel and asked people not to speculate about it.
Earlier today, the producer also reiterated the same point. Taking to social media, the banner wrote, "Any official update regarding the sequel of Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya will be announced only through our official channels at Swadharm Entertainment or by our producer Rahul Yadav Nakka. We kindly request everyone not to spread or believe any rumours related to the film or the franchise."
The second part is yet to have an official confirmation from the makers. Meanwhile, the first part is streaming on Prime Video. It stars Naveen Polishetty as a detective hailing from Nellore who has a great sense of humour, and it chronicles the investigator's adventures. The film also stars Shruti Sharma and Suhas in important roles. In our review, Murali Krishna CH wrote, "The film is a 148-minute cat-and-mouse chase with a few twists and turns that keeps us on the edge of our seats. Naveen Polishetty has a boyish charm which lends a likeableness to his character and he gets the Nellore dialect on point."
While there is no official confirmation about the film's sequel, there has already been a remake of the 2019 original, 2022's Agent Kannayiram, directed by Manoj Beedha and starring Santhanam in the titular role.
