In recent times, Telugu cinema has seen a strong wave of films rooted in Telangana’s rural milieu, and joining that list now is Maremma. The film features Madhav Bhupathiraju, nephew of Ravi Teja, in the lead role, with Deepa Balu playing the female lead. Directed by Manchala Nagaraj and produced by Mayur Reddy Bandaru, the teaser of the film was released on Wednesday.
The teaser hints that the story is inspired by real incidents from Telangana and firmly establishes its rural backdrop. With several Telangana-based stories finding both critical and commercial success in recent years, Maremma also banks on a similar setting. The teaser looks promising and revolves around a village deity, with Madhav’s character appearing intense and intriguing.
Addressing comparisons with the earlier film Pottel, which had a similar rural setup, director Manchala Nagaraj clarified that Maremma is completely different in its theme and treatment. While Pottel focused primarily on education, Maremma delves deeper into village traditions, faith, and the significance of a local deity, he explained.
Madhav, who naturally speaks in an Andhra dialect, revealed that he underwent nearly three months of training to master the Telangana dialect for this role. He also shared that he put in extensive preparation to understand both the cultural backdrop and the emotional depth required for his character. Madhav added that his uncle Ravi Teja liked the story and encouraged him to go ahead with the project.
Interestingly, Madhav’s debut film was initially planned to be Idiot. However, he felt a stronger connection with Maremma and decided to take it up first. He confirmed that Idiot is still on track and will release after Maremma.
With its Telangana roots, village-centric narrative, and a debutant backed by a known film family, Maremma has generated curiosity among audiences eager for grounded, culturally driven stories.
Popular producer Bobby (KS Ravindra) attended as the chief guest for this trailer-release event.
