Earlier, we reported about Priyanka Chopra making her comeback into Indian cinema after a long time with a role in director SS Rajamouli's ambitious, big-scale film Varanasi, co-starring Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran. The actor plays a character named Mandakini in the film, which marks her debut in Telugu cinema. Recently, Priyanka joined Mahesh and Prithviraj in a conversation about the film with Collider.
One of the interesting observations that Priyanka has made about the film is that fans have figured out some of the subtle details in the movie with its teaser alone. "There are so many Easter eggs, which I know a lot of fans have already started speculating about. Some of them have a lot of it right, which is terrifying," Priyanka said.
The Easter eggs include Ramayana references as well as a mention of the film's prehistoric setting and of reincarnation. "I was like, “How did they figure that out?” But they're, like, zooming in! That was really incredible," Priyanka said.
According to the actor, the film takes its characters through a journey ranging "from 2000 BC to 2027". She also shared her excitement about seeing the title being launched with a grand event in Ramoji Film City recently, alongside scores of fans. "Like Mahesh said, we knew what he wanted to make, but to be able to see it with the euphoria and the energy of that many fans that had been waiting for such a long time to get a little glimpse, and then to be able to see the scale of all of our characters and the journey of the movie, from 2000 BC to 2027, it's amazing."
Recently, Rajamouli confirmed that Varanasi will hit theatres, including IMAX screens, in April next year.
