Director Shaneil Deo's highly anticipated film Dacoit hit theatres on April 10, Friday. The film, starring Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur in the lead roles, received mostly mixed reviews from critics. However, it has been having a reasonable run at the box office so far.
According to the box office tracker Sacnilk, the film has grossed 10.66 crore from theatres in India so far. On the first day of release, it grossed 6.50 crore at the India box office, the tracker reported. A vast majority of the Dacoit box office collection has come from the film's Telugu version. It is worth noting that the film is also running in theatres in Hindi.
The film follows a convict (Adivi Sesh) who escapes while being taken to a different prison and wants to avenge his erstwhile girlfriend (Mrunal Thakur), believing that she is behind his imprisonment.
In our review, Suresh Kavirayani wrote that the film "follows a familiar template." The Dacoit review further added, "It is a story about whether the man at the centre is ultimately a good dacoit or a bad one. Telugu cinema has explored such characters for decades, where the hero may become a thief or an outlaw, but eventually reveals a softer side. Dacoit also follows that route, though it adds a few twists along the way."
The film also stars Prakash Raj, Anurag Kashyap, Atul Kulkarni, Sunil, Kamakshi Bhaskarla, Vaibhav, and Zayn Marie Khan, among others. It has brought Adivi Sesh back on to the screen in a lead role after 2022's Major. The actor made came appearances in the HIT franchise in the meantime. His HIT co-star Nani praised the film, calling it a "true BLOCKBUSTER with all heart" and giving a strong recommendation for watching it in theatres.
