The much-anticipated title and teaser reveal of Puri Jagannadh’s upcoming film with Vijay Sethupathi, scheduled for Sunday evening to coincide with the director’s birthday, has been postponed following the tragic stampede at actor Vijay’s political roadshow in Tamil Nadu, which claimed over 30 lives.
The makers of the film, popularly referred to as #PuriSethupathi, shared a note on social media announcing the decision. “The unfortunate incident in Tamil Nadu has deeply saddened us. As a mark of respect, the Title & Teaser Launch Event of #PuriSethupathi stands postponed. We extend our deepest sympathies to the victims and their families. May they find courage and strength in this difficult time. A new date will be announced soon,” the statement read.
The pan-Indian project PuriSethupathi brings together Puri Jagannadh and Vijay Sethupathi for the first time, a pairing that has naturally generated a wave of curiosity among cinephiles. Reports suggest that the film could be titled Slum Dog, though official confirmation will have to wait until the rescheduled announcement.
PuriSethupathi’s ensemble cast adds to the intrigue. Veteran actor Tabu is said to play a pivotal role, while Samyuktha is cast as the female lead. Kannada actor Duniya Vijay and Brahmaji are also part of the line-up. Music is expected to be composed by Mahati Swara Sagar, although the makers are yet to formally confirm the crew details.
The project is being jointly produced by Charmme Kaur under the Puri Connects banner and JB Narayana Rao Kondrolla of JB Motion Pictures. With Puri looking to bounce back from his current underwhelming streak, #PuriSethupathi is being closely watched as one of his most ambitious undertakings in recent years.
