Fresh off the success of Mirai, which released on September 12, Karthik Gattamneni is all set to shift gears again, this time, not as a director, but as a cinematographer for Chiranjeevi’s upcoming film with director Bobby Kolli. In a recent interview with GreatAndhra, Karthik confirmed that he has been approached for the project but that final discussion is on.
Interestingly, despite directing films, Karthik’s strongest calling card has been his work behind the camera. Known for his ability to stage and light frames with finesse, he has now reportedly been approached to handle cinematography for Chiranjeevi’s next. While he has expressed interest, final talks and a formal confirmation from the team is still awaited.
While Karthik has always been appreciated for his technical craft, his career has had its share of ups and downs. He made his directorial debut with Surya vs Surya and followed it up with Eagle, both of which did not strike big with audiences. But Mirai, headlined by Teja Sajja and Manchu Manoj, seems to have changed the narrative, with many praising it.
This collaboration could be a career-defining one. Karthik has not yet worked as a cinematographer for any of the Telugu industry’s top stars, and a Chiranjeevi project is often seen as a stamp of approval that opens new doors. For the star too, this fits into a recent trend of collaborating with younger technicians, as seen with his decision to sign a project with Dasara director Srikanth Odela. For now, Karthik is basking in the Mirai afterglow, with conversations about the sequel doing rounds.
