Little Hearts, the youthful entertainer starring Mouli and Shivani Nagaram that released on September 5, has taken everyone by surprise with its amazing growth at the boxoffice as the weekend closed. While there was some hype generated among film-goers with its unique promotional events, the film’s boxoffice figures have surpassed all expectations.
On its opening weekend, Little Hearts garnered 7.36 crores (nett) at domestic boxoffice, according to a report from Sacnilk.com. At worldwide boxoffice, the film’s figures have easily crossed 12 crores. More importantly, the film registered a 160 % growth in its Sunday collections, compared to its Friday figures.
Reportedly made on a budget of Rs 2 crore, the Sai Marthand directorial broke-even on its second day itself. In terms of gross boxoffice figures, Little Hearts has already entered the top 15 Telugu films of the year, within 3 days of its release. On Saturday, the film also overtook the collections of Ghaati, the Anushka Shetty starrer actioner which too released on September 5, and had a far bigger release in terms of screen-count.
But the success story for the film has just begun. The film is expected to hold strongly even on weekdays, and its domestic first week collections are expected to touch the 15-crore mark, which is remarkable for a film with such a limited release. Little Hearts is one of the rare films that has truly shown the power of word-of-mouth impact a film can generate event in present times. By all estimates, the film will most likely cross Rs 2 crore figure on Monday. It is to be noted that the biggest of Telugu films this year — Kingdom and War 2 — couldn’t touch the 2-crore mark on their first Monday, while Hari Hara Veera Mallu just managed to cross 2 crores.
The success of Little Hearts comes as a major surprise, and a breath of fresh air for most makers and audiences, who were complaining of a certain formula taking over Telugu cinema. While the boxoffice figures cannot be compared to big star vehicles like Sankranthiki Vasthunnam or Daaku Maharaaj, Little Hearts has now joined the league with other mid-scale films like Court - State vs a Nobody and #Single, which achieved boxoffice success this year. While Court’s final domestic figures stood at 40.7 crore (nett), #Single collected 26.73 crores at domestic boxoffice.
Now it remains to be seen how far can Little Hears take its growth, and whether it can surpass films like #Single and Court, considering next week will see the release of the much-anticipated Teja Sajja starrer Mirai.
