We had earlier reported about Rana Daggubati’s next film as a presenter, Dark Chocolate that features 35 - Chinna Katha Kaadu actor Vishwadev Rachakonda in the lead. The first teaser of the film, released on Sunday, lives upto the promise made in the promotional material released earlier.
The Dark Chocolate teaser establishes four primary characters stuck in a huge den-like mansion. It’s clear that Vishwadev Rachakonda plays an angsty, cynical movie star (popular as 'Fire star Yagna') who might or might not have tasted success in the past, but definitely has no interest in making another family-friendly movie. What about the other three? Why are they compelled to think of ideas for the star’s next film, if at all? Does the star love the innocent-looking girl in the group?
There are plenty of questions, and no clear answers. However, edited at a breakneck speed, the teaser creates a trippy vibe, embellished with colorful language, characters’ mysterious actions and out-of-context dialogues that actually create a narrative of their own. Even the visual styling of the film appears distinct from other dark comedies we usually see.
As a cherry on top, the makers throw several captions throughout the teaser that add to the madcap quality of the film, be it the one about ‘Filmnagar Cinematic Universe’ or the one where they say nobody including them knows the genre this film belongs to.
In another unique tongue-in-cheek touch, the makers also share 3 options for release date — October 31, November 14, and December 5 — asking the audience to pick one for them.
Dark Chocolate is produced by Siddharth Rallapalli and bankrolled under the banners of Waltair Productions and Spirit Media. Bindu Madhavi, Rakesh Rachakonda and Ramesh Konambhotla are the other three lead actors in this dark comedy. Vivek Sagar is the music director. The cinematography and production design are by Sathish Saakar and Naagav Tej Koppineedi, respectively. Lanka Santoshi is the costume designer, and Faraz Mir is credited as assistant writer.
Written, edited, and directed by Shashank Srivatsavaya, Dark Chocolate promises to be the trippiest comedy of the year.
