Veteran actor Annapurna will be seen in a comic role in the upcoming Sapthagiri starrer Pelli Kaani Prasad. At a promotional event held for the movie recently, the actor, who is knowing for playing many memorable character roles, expressed her views on the changing taste of audience.

Addressing a question from media, Annapurna said in a jestful manner, “Now the young audience is telling us to either make them laugh or sit at home. Even the filmmakers say, ‘who wants to see sad, emotional films anymore, madam?’” The actor added, “The audience of those times liked to see those kind of emotional films. Now people prefer comedies like Pelli Kaani Prasad.”

On a lighter note, Annapurna also thanked Pelli Kaani Prasad director Abhilash Reddy Gopidi for being patient with her despite many tantrums, “I bothered him a lot, but he didn’t get flustered. If I refused to do any scene a certain way, he would agree… only to return a little later and quietly say, ‘Please do it this way,’” she recalled with a chuckle.

Coincidentally, 2025 marks the 50th year in the movie industry for Annapurna. The veteran actor, who has since been the recipient of 3 Nandi awards, made her acting debut with the 1975 film Swargam Narakam, where she was paired opposite Mohan Babu. Annapurna, who has worked in over 300 movies, was seen in films like Mr Bachchan and KA last year.

Meanwhile, Pelli Kaani Prasad is slated to release on March 21. The comedy entertainer also stars Muralidhar Goud and Pramodini in significant roles.
