Popular singer Mangli has been booked under multiple charges following a police raid at her birthday party held at Tripura Resorts in Chevella, on the outskirts of Hyderabad, on the night of June 10. The raid was carried out by the Cyberabad Special Operations Team and the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau based on a tip-off regarding suspected drug activity.
Officials stated that the party was organised without obtaining the required permissions from the police and excise departments. Foreign liquor was reportedly served without a valid licence, and DJ equipment was used in violation of sound regulations. Authorities tested 48 attendees for drug consumption, and at least one individual, identified as Damodar, was found to be under the influence of marijuana. Some reports suggest the number may be higher, with up to nine guests suspected to have consumed cannabis.
The Chevella police have registered cases under provisions of the Narcotic Act and additional charges for organising the event without proper authorisation. The general manager of Tripura Resorts and the DJ operator have also been booked. Notices are expected to be issued to more attendees as the investigation progresses.
The party was reportedly attended by several figures from the Telugu film and music industries, including Rachcha Ravi, Divi Vadthya, lyricist Kasarla Shyam, and Indravathi. Mangli has not yet issued a statement in response to the incident.
Mangli, born Satyavathi Rathod, is a well-known folk and playback singer in Telugu cinema. She rose to prominence with festival-themed songs like ‘Bathukamma Song’ and ‘Bonalu Jathara’, and has delivered popular tracks such as ‘Ramulo Ramulaa’ and ‘Ooru Palletooru’.
