Veteran Telugu actor Kota Srinivasa Rao passed away in the early hours of Sunday at the age of 83. The news of his death prompted a wave of tributes from actors, directors, and political figures across the Telugu film industry, many of whom shared their memories and condolences on social media.

Director SS Rajamouli posted on X, “Deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Kota Srinivasa Rao garu. A master of his craft, a legend who breathed life into every character he portrayed. His presence on screen was truly irreplaceable. My heartfelt condolences to his family. Om Shanti.”

Chiranjeevi, who debuted alongside Kota in Pranam Khareedu, shared a long note: “The news of the passing of legendary actor and multi-talented artiste Sri Kota Srinivasa Rao has deeply saddened me... Whether as a comic villain, a serious antagonist, or a supporting character, every role he played was done with such excellence that it felt as if only he could have done justice to it... The absence of an actor like Sri Kota Srinivasa Rao is an irreplaceable loss to the film industry.”

Ram Gopal Varma wrote, “KOTA SRINIVASA RAO is undoubtedly one of the greatest actors cinema has ever seen. The effect of his contribution to my films Shiva, Gaayam, Money, Sarkar and Rakht Charitra is immeasurable. Sir, you might have gone, but your characters will live forever.”

Ravi Teja, who acted with Kota in multiple films, tweeted, “Grew up watching him, admiring him, and learning from every performance. Kota Babai was like family to me... Rest in peace, Kota Srinivasa Rao gaaru.”

Vishnu Manchu said, “A phenomenal actor, an unmatched talent... Whether it was a serious role, a villain, or comedy, he brought life into every character with rare mastery... He will always be missed.”

Mohan Babu expressed, “Dear Kota, You will be missed. Deeply. Your talent, your presence, your soul – unforgettable. At a loss for words.”

Actors Brahmanandam and Tanikella Bharani also shared their grief with media outlets. Brahmanandam, breaking down while speaking, said, “We were very close... For four decades, we worked together. I can't believe Kota is no more.”

Kota Srinivasa Rao began his film career in 1978 with Pranam Khareedu and went on to act in over 750 films across five Indian languages. He won nine Nandi Awards and received the Padma Shri in 2015 for his contribution to Indian cinema. Known for his command over comic, villainous, and character roles, some of his iconic performances include Gaayam, Money, Aha Naa Pellanta, Aa Naluguru, and Bommarillu. His recent major appearance was in Suvarna Sundari (2023). Reports suggest that his last appearance will be in Pawan Kalyan’s Hari Hara Veera Mallu, which is coming on July 24. Kota Srinivasa Rao’s death marks the end of an era in Telugu cinema.
