Venky Atluri has addressed rumours surrounding sequels to his recent films Sir and Lucky Baskhar. In a recent interview, Atluri confirmed that while a second instalment of Lucky Baskhar is in development, Sir (also released in Tamil as Vaathi) will not have a follow-up.

“No, there won’t be a sequel to Sir,” Atluri stated, explaining that the Dhanush-led film was always intended as a standalone story. The 2023 social drama focused on the challenges of India’s education system and had garnered both critical and commercial success.

On the other hand, Atluri offered more promising news for fans of Lucky Baskhar. “Lucky Baskhar sequel will happen for sure,” he confirmed. The financial thriller, starring Dulquer Salmaan, followed the life of a bank employee whose world changes dramatically after an unexpected event. Known for its compelling narrative and understated performances, the film has since earned a dedicated following.

While the sequel is confirmed, Atluri noted that production might take time. “We are working on the idea for Lucky Baskhar 2, but it will take some time as both Dulquer and I are busy with our current films,” he said.

Venky Atluri is currently directing Tamil star Suriya in a new project tentatively titled Suriya 46, which is being shot at a fast pace. Meanwhile, Dulquer Salmaan has multiple ongoing projects across languages, which could delay the sequel’s official launch.
