Producer Bunny Vas, aka Sarath Chandra, met Bansuri Swaraj and took to his X page to convey his gratitude to her. Thandel is based on a real story of fishermen who were captured in Pakistani prisons. Former minister, the late Sushma Swaraj played a pivotal role in bringing back the fishermen. The film is set to depict her character.
Bunny Vas wrote, “Heartfelt gratitude to Bansuri Swaraj gaaru for giving us the opportunity to showcase the remarkable work of your mother, the former Central Minister Mrs Sushma Swaraj gaaru, in bringing back the fishermen who were stuck in Pakistani jails in 2017 and 2018 in our Thandel. Your support in granting permission to share the names in our real hard-hitting story of Raju and Satya means a lot to us.”
The trailer for Thandel begins with tender moments between fisherman Raju (Naga Chaitanya) and Bujji Thalli (Sai Pallavi) before shifting to Raju’s journey overseas to protect his community. The stakes rise as Raju and his crew are captured by the Pakistani army, setting the stage for a tale of love, patriotism, and heroism amidst cross-border tensions. The film’s title, Thandel, is explained in the trailer as “the one who anchors his crew, love, and people, willing to sacrifice his life.”
Thandel brings together Chandoo Mondeti, known for his National Award-winning Karthikeya 2, and Naga Chaitanya, marking their second collaboration after the 2016 film Premam. With cinematography by Shamdat, production design by Srinagendra Tangala, and music by Devi Sri Prasad, the film is generating significant anticipation.
