Actor and politician Nandamuri Balakrishna, widely known as Balayya or NBK, was conferred the Padma Bhushan on Saturday as part of the Republic Day honours. The award acknowledges his contributions to Telugu cinema and his philanthropic efforts, particularly through the Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital. Balakrishna was among 19 recipients of the Padma Bhushan this year.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu congratulated Balakrishna on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “Heartfelt congratulations to Telugu cinema legend and Hindupur MLA, Shri Nandamuri Balakrishna Garu, on being conferred the Padma Bhushan! Upholding the legendary NTR Garu’s legacy, you have excelled in cinema, politics, and philanthropy.”

Jr. NTR, Balakrishna’s nephew, expressed his joy, saying, “Heartiest congratulations to Bala Babai on being honoured with the prestigious Padma Bhushan award. This recognition is a testament to your unparalleled contributions to cinema and your relentless public service.”

SS Rajamouli also praised the achievement: “Heartiest congratulations to Nandamuri Balakrishna garu on being honoured with the Padma Bhushan! Your journey in Indian cinema is truly commendable.”

Other industry figures, including Chiranjeevi, Anil Ravipudi, Venkatesh Daggubati, Karthi, Vishwak Sen, and Nani, congratulated the Akhanda actor. “Child at heart, lion in the field, and recently everyone’s bro :)” wrote Nani.

For all the congratulations, the Legend actor released a press note and said, “Thank you to the Indian government for granting this award. I thank all my co-actors, producers, technicians, and audiences for being with me and showering love on this journey.”

The Padma Awards this year recognised 139 individuals across categories, including seven Padma Vibhushan and 124 Padma Shri awards, celebrating significant contributions in various fields.

Balakrishna recently had Daaku Maharaaj, directed by Bobby Kolli, which became a 100 crore grosser.
