Ram Gopal Varma has reacted to the recent Mumbai court ruling sentencing him to three months in jail for a cheque bounce case. Addressing the issue on X, Varma stated, “With regard to the news about me and Andheri Court, I want to clarify that it has to do with a 7-year-old case of Rs 2 lakh 38 thousand amount, relating to my ex-employee. My advocates are attending to it, and since the matter is in court, I cannot say anything further.”

The Andheri Magistrate Court delivered the verdict after Varma failed to attend the hearing on Tuesday, leading to the issuance of a non-bailable warrant for his arrest. The case involves a dishonoured cheque under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.

The court has directed the Sathya director to pay Rs 3.72 lakh in compensation to the complainant within three months, failing which he will face an additional three months of imprisonment. The dispute, filed in 2018, centres on a financial disagreement involving Varma’s firm.
