Hyderabad police took Telugu actor and writer Posani Krishna Murali into custody on Wednesday night. The 66-year-old was arrested at his residence in Yellareddyguda at around 8:45 pm. His arrest follows multiple cases filed against him under non-bailable sections of the law. According to a report, the charges cover offences that are cognisable and non-bailable, meaning police can make an arrest without a warrant, and bail is not granted as a matter of right.

Murali’s arrest is linked to allegations of making derogatory remarks against political leaders and communities. He infamously made derogatory remarks against the now AP deputy chief minister and actor Pawan Kalyan and his minor daughter. His comments were widely criticised. A notice served to his wife stated that the offence was serious in nature, and he would be presented before the Additional Judicial Magistrate in Rajampet. A video is going viral on social media where Murali was seen trying to argue with police who came into his house for arrest.

Previously, Murali faced legal action for similar statements, including those against Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. He was an active supporter of the YSRCP before the 2024 elections and served as the Andhra Pradesh Film Development Corporation Chairman during the party’s tenure.

Murali announced his retirement from active politics last year, stating that he was no longer associated with any political party. His arrest comes amid ongoing action by the TDP-Jana Sena-BJP coalition government against YSRCP social media activists and supporters accused of making derogatory comments against TDP and Jana Sena leaders when YSRCP was in power.

Murali is known for his work in Telugu cinema, particularly in comedy and character roles.
