We had earlier reported about Balakrishna starrer Akhanda 2 registering steady, while below expectations collections on its first extended weekend. The film’s figures on first Monday were pretty much in sync with the graph.
According to a report by boxoffice tracker Sacnilk.com , the film collected Rs 5.4 crore (nett) on Monday. The drop is that of nearly 64 percent, as compared to the standard 60 percent decline. However, for a film that didn’t open with very big numbers to begin with, this is not a good progression — and Akhanda 2 will likely struggle to maintain momentum in coming few days.
From December 19 onwards, Akhanda 2 might even face stronger competition from Dhurandhar that will reportedly be released in Telugiu dub version. It remains to be seen how well the Balakrishna starrer fares in its second week then.
As of Monday, December 15, the gross worldwide collections for Akhanda 2 stand roughly around 90-95 crore mark.
This marks the fourth collaboration between Balakrishna and Boyapati Sreenu. All their previous three films - Akhanda, Simha, and Legend - were massive box-office hits. Originally scheduled for a December 5 release, the film was postponed to December 12 due to financial hassles. Upon release, it received mixed responses, with critics largely unimpressed.
Reportedly made with a budget of more than Rs 200 crore, the film also suffered a major setback in the Hindi belt, where it failed to draw any attention from the audience. Even though Balakrishna and Boyapati Srinu actively promoted the film in Hindi belt through select YouTube channels, Akhanda 2 reportedly collected only around ₹35 lakh in the Hindi market over its first three days.
In comparison, the film fared better with its Tamil version, grossing over 1.6 crores in first 4 days.
