The much-hyped Nandamuri Balakrishna starrer Akhanda 2 was all set to hit the screens this Friday, December 5. Ahead of the release, the makers had planned special premiere shows in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Massive crowds were expected, as Balakrishna enjoys a huge fan following in both states. Both governments had also approved a ticket price hike specifically for these premieres. However, moments ago, the Akhanda PR team released a flash update announcing that the premiere shows have been cancelled due to technical issues.
“Akhanda 2 premieres scheduled for today are cancelled due to technical issues. We’ve tried our best, but a few things are beyond our control. Sorry for the inconvenience,” the production house also stated on their official social media handle.
While the makers did not reveal the exact issue, a source claims that the legal dispute surrounding the film has not yet been resolved. The Chennai High Court recently granted an injunction in favour of Eros International, restraining the release of Akhanda 2. Both production houses reportedly have financial differences since many years, a dispute that led Eros to seek a stay order on the film’s release.
The source further added another possible reason could it regarding how the Telangana State Government has made it mandatory that 20 percent of the increased ticket price be allocated to the Movie Artists Welfare Association to support industry workers. Considering all these complications, the makers are said to have decided against holding the premiere shows.
