Shree Nandu: I lost 18 kilos for the role of Psych Siddhartha
Actor Shree Nandu plays the lead role in the upcoming film Psych Siddhartha. Varun Reddy is making his directorial debut with the film, while Yamini Bhaskar stars as the female lead. Scheduled for a release on December 12, Psych Siddhartha had its trailer unveiled on Tuesday.
Speaking about his preparation for the role during the trailer launch event, Nandu said, “I lost 18 kilos for this role and put in a lot of hard work. There is no influence of Arjun Reddy on my character, but in terms of filmmaking, there is definitely an influence of director Sandeep Reddy Vanga. He introduced a new cinematic language, so we tried new grammar in filmmaking and editing."
Nandu added that Rana Daggubati liked the concept of Psych Siddhartha even before it went on floors. Rana is now presenting the film, and his father’s banner, Suresh Productions, has bought the film. “I’ve completed 18 years in the industry and played many different characters, but I’ve never received negative feedback about my performance,” Nandu said.
The actor also mentioned Virat Kohli as an example. “It took 18 years for Virat Kohli to win the cup for RCB, and just like him, I believe my time will come. The film has shaped up very well, and if it isn’t good, I will openly apologise. I’m not saying this out of pride, but out of respect,” he added. Nandu also said that some viewers may prefer the first half of Psych Siddhartha, but everyone will like the second half.
“Even if I fail, I will continue making films. I’ll keep trying until I get my big break,” he said. He added that the story reflects the present generation and society. “After watching the film, Suresh Babu immediately agreed to take it up. As a producer, I’m already in profit. Suresh Babu, who bought the film, is also happy, so this is a profitable venture,” Nandu said.
Reflecting on his earlier days, he recalled, “I acted as the second lead in Pelli Choopulu, and after its success, I felt that I, too, would taste success someday. My dream came true when Suresh Productions bought my film.” He added that he is a bit emotional because he has put all his efforts into this project.
