Sithara Entertainments, the production house behind Vijay Deverakonda's Kingdom, has addressed the concerns about the film hurting the sentiments of the Tamil people. The film which stars Vijay Deverakonda in the lead, is directed by Gowtham Tinnanuri, and has music by Anirudh.
The film, which is set in Sri Lanka, follows a police officer (Deverakonda) who infiltrates a cartel, in order to save his brother, while bringing the operations of the cartel down. The pushback mainly comes from the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), who have been staging demonstrations outside theatres in Trichy, stating that by naming the film's antagonist Murugan, the film portrays Sri Lankan Tamils in poor light.
As per a press release, Sithara Entertainments said, "We confirm that we respect the sentiments of the Tamil people, and we promise that, there are no such scenes which are involved in the movie that resembling to hurt the sentiments of the ocal state people, and this story is been completely a fictional story and an imaginary one and it is been mentioned in the disclaimer portion of the movie." Through the statement Sithara Entertainment also apologised and said, "In such case, if the sentiments of the people are hurt, we regret for the incident. We kindly request you to support the movie."
The film which was released on July 31, also stars Satyadev, Bhagyashri Borse, Venkitesh, and Manish Chaudhari.
