The much-anticipated Kingdom took a roaring start at the box office on Thursday. The action-thriller, starring Vijay Deverakonda and directed by Jersey fame Gowtam Tinnanuri, has crossed the 25-crore figure at worldwide box office on day one itself.
After registering great advance figures, Kingdom ended up with a nett figure of Rs 15.75 crore at domestic boxoffice, according to Sacnilk.com. The film has additionally grossed more than $1 million in overseas markets, according to a social media post by the makers on their X page. The fact that these collections arrive on a non-Holiday Thursday make the figures all the more impressive.
Also starring Bhagyashri Borse and Satyadev, Kingdom is likely to emerge as Vijay Deverakonda’s biggest hit so far, leaving behind Geetha Govindham (2018). Additionally, the film has broken the worldwide opening day records of Liger and Kushi, setting a personal record for Vijay Deverakonda.
Although the film has received mixed reviews from critics, the audience response, albeit mixed as well, tilts towards the positive. It remains to be seen how well the film sustains on the weekends. Reportedly made on a budget of 130 crores, the film needs to gross approximately Rs 110 crore to break-even.
Kingdom marks the first collaboration between Vijay Deverakonda and Gowtam Tinnanuri. Anirudh composed music for the film. The action-thriller also marked Telugu debut for Malayalam actor Venkitesh. In our review for the film, we noted, “It’s not that Kingdom is a bad film, but the film never soars or lives up to the true potential of its themes. The film has too many things on its platter, and ends up doing a disservice to most of them.”
