Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari to re-release in 3D
On Saturday, Vyjayanthi Movies announced the re-release date for their 1990 classic Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari. The Chiranjeevi-Sridevi starrer blockbuster will hit theatres on May 9 in 2D as well as 3D versions.
Directed by legendary filmmaker K Raghavendra Rao, JVAS told the story of a kind-hearted tourist guide who accidentally ends up meeting a celestial goddess after he mistakenly finds her magical ring and brings it with him to planet Earth. K Raghavendra also co-wrote the script in association with Jandhyala and Yandamuri Veerendranath.
The film also starred Amrish Puri, Kannada Prabhakar, Allu Ramalingaiah, and Rami Reddy in the supporting cast. Ilaiyaraaja was the music director. Made upon a budget of Rs 2 crore, the film grossed nearly 15 crores at the box office and remained the highest-grossing Telugu film for a few years.
Besides being a massive box boxoffice hit, the film was also the recipient of 5 Nandi awards that year. Owing to the pan-India popularity of its lead stars, the film was also released in Hindi with the title ‘Aadmi aur Apsara.’
Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari was also the second to last of the five films where Chiranjeevi and Sridevi shared the screen.
