On Sunday, actor Nikhil Siddhartha has officially confirmed that the Karthikeya franchise is going to have a third part. The announcement reads as follows, “Dr Karthikeya in search of a brand new adventure…the blockbuster franchise Karthikeya 3 on cards. More details soon…”
While the first part of the film came out in 2014, the second part came eight years later in 2022. The first two films of the franchise starred Nikhil Siddhartha in the lead role and were helmed by Chandoo Mondeti. While Karthikeya starred Swathi Reddy as the female lead, the sequel featured Anupama Parameswaran.
It may be noted that Karthikeya 2 is a direct sequel of Karthikeya, as opposed to a spiritual sequel. Karthikeya 2, notably became a blockbuster hit in both Telugu and Hindi. The announcement also mentions that Chandoo Mondeti is currently working on the script of Karthikeya 3 and the film will go into pre-production soon.
Chandoo Mondeti is currently helming Thandel, a survival drama, starring Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi. The film, based on true events, revolves around the life of a fisherman from Srikakulam, who accidentally becomes a hostage of the Pakistani government.
Nikhil Siddhartha was last seen in Spy, the directorial debut of editor Garry BH. The film was a commercial failure. He will be seen next in Swayambhu, where he will be seen playing a warrior, and The India House, an Independence-era action-drama based on true events. On the personal front, Nikhil and his wife Dr Pallavi Varma recently turned parents, to a baby boy.
