The makers of Kalki 2898 AD released an interview video on Sunday, with the film’s primary cast, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan, engaging in a freewheeling conversation with the producers Swapna Dutt and Priyanka Dutt. On the occasion, Swapna Dutt candidly spoke about the process of casting Kamal Haasan, who plays Yaskin in the upcoming Nag Ashwin directorial.

Talking about how it took a long time to cast Kamal Haasan for the role of Yaskin, Swapna Dutt stated, “You know we were shooting and shooting. And all of us were like, 'When is Yaskin coming? The whole film is Yaskin.' How would you cast this person who is mightier than the two superheroes of the film? We could only think of Kamal sir, and we were after him for at least an year.” Prabhas interjected at this point, adding on a lighter note, “I was telling her, ‘Why will Kamal sir do it? Don’t torture him. Just leave it.”

Talking about this role, then, Kamal Haasan noted that self-doubt was a major reason why he couldn’t say yes to the project for a long time. He noted, “I thought Prabhas is doing this, Amitabh Bachchan is doing this; what am I going to do?” The Indian 2 actor added further, “It’s not that I have not played bad guys here. I’ve even played lead bad guys, psychopaths, etc. But this is something else.”

Produced under the banner of Vyjayanthi Movies, Kalki 2898 AD is geared up for a worldwide release on June 27.
