Explaining the process behind the ideation of the upcoming sci-fi dystopian film Kalki 2898 AD, the makers have released the first of a series of episodes titled 'Prelude of Kalki 2989 AD'.
In the video, director Nag Ashwin narrates how the idea to make such a film struck him. He calls the Ramayana and Mahabharat "epics that are part of our culture and everyday life in India." He adds, saying that since Kaliyug is mentioned as the last age in the Hindu belief system, the climax of all the yugas and avatars should happen in this age.
The director adds that as Kaliyug is still in progress, there is no epic or story about it, so he thought of writing a "sequel to Mahabharat," which happens in Kaliyug.
The film is produced by Chalasani Aswini Dutt, Swapna Dutt, and Priyanka Dutt under the banner.
Filmmaker Nag Ashwin, who made his feature film debut with the 2018 film Mahanati, is the director for Kalki 2898 AD. The film boasts a massive ensemble cast, including the likes of Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan in prominent roles. Additionally, Kamal Haasan and Disha Patani will be seen making special appearances in the film.
Kalki 2898 AD is set for a theatrical release on June 27.
