It has been a few days since the makers of Kalki 2898 AD released the trailer for the magnum opus. Directed by Nag Ashwin, the pan-Indian film has used extensive CG work to showcase a dystopian India set many centuries later from the current time.
Upon the trailer's release, appreciation poured in from all corners for the visually grand setting, VFX, and the lead actors' performance. Now, an artist has called out the makers of the film for unauthorised usage of his artwork. Sung Choi, a concept artist who has worked for Marvel Studios, Disney, Warner Bros, and Netflix Animation, took to his social media handles to point out that a scene from the trailer was lifted off from his artwork that he created ten years ago. He also shared a screenshot comparing his work to the particular scene.
He wrote, "Unauthorized use of artwork is a bad practice. I sometimes even question doing art in this lawless environment," and tagged Vyjayanthi Movies, which is bankrolling the film.
Kalki 2898 AD stars Prabhas in the lead role as Bhairava, along with Amitabh Bachchan as Ashwatthama, Deepika Padukone as Padma and Saswata Chatterjee. Disha Patani and Kamal Haasan will be seen in extended special appearances in the film, which is slated to hit theatres worldwide on June 27.
On the technical team, the film has music by Santosh Narayanan, cinematography by Djordje Stojiljkovic and editing by Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao. The film is produced by C Aswini Dutt, Swapna Dutt, and Priyanka Dutt under the Vyjayanthi Movies banner.
