We had previously reported that Jersey-fame director Gowtam Tinnanuri will be working next with Vijay Devarakonda in VD 12, a cop drama, opposite Sreeleela. While the current status of VD 12 remains unclear, Gowtam Tinnanuri has announced Magic, his upcoming film. Magic, starring a host of newcomers, and also includes four lead actors, is a young adult musical drama. A first-look poster of the film has also been unveiled on Monday morning, which features the film's leads recreating the iconic Abbey Road pose of The Beatles.
The film's key premise revolves around four teenagers coming together to compose an original song for their upcoming college fest. Magic has already wrapped its principal production and is gearing up to hit the theatres this summer in Telugu and Tamil. The film was shot in the Nilgiri hills.
Excluding VD 12, Magic is Gowtam's fourth film. The writer-director made his debut in 2017 with Malli Rava, a romantic drama starring Sumanth and Akanksha Singh. He then followed it up with the Nani-Shraddha Srinath starrer Jersey in 2019, a sports drama that has gone on to earn a cult status for itself in the years to follow. Gowtam has also won a National Award in 2021 for the same, in the Best Feature Film - Telugu category. He also subsequently directed the Hindi remake of Jersey in 2022, which featured Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur in the lead roles. Anirudh Ravichander, who has collaborated with Gowtam in the Telugu version of Jersey to great success, is the music composer of Magic. Anirudh has also been roped in for VD 12.
Magic is produced by Gowtam's frequent collaborators, Suryadevara Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya from the banner Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas. The film is presented by Srikar Studios. Girish Gangadharan (Angamaly Diaries, Vikram) is the cinematographer of the film, with editing by Navin Nooli (Jersey, Dasara) and production design by Avinash Kolla (Shyam Singha Roy, Major).
