Veteran actor Mohan Babu landed in controversy earlier this week for attacking a TV journalist for barging into his residence. The actor was booked by the police for his actions. On Friday morning, the actor officially issued a formal statement of regret about the same.

Taking to his X page, Mohan Babu shared a post, which read, “It pains me deeply that what started as a personal family dispute spiraled into a larger situation, causing distress not only to the esteemed TV9 family but also to the broader journalist fraternity.”

Explaining his behaviour which triggered the backlash, the actor stated that he lost his composure when ‘anti-social elements barged into his house with an intent to harm those present,’ which led to the TV9 journalist sustaining injury. “I sincerely apologise for my actions, which have caused pain and distress, and I extend my heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery,” part of the statement read.

Mohan Babu also clarified the reasons for not responding sooner, stating he was in the hospital for 48 hours due to health reasons.

On Wednesday, following the incident, the journalists protested outside Mohan Babu’s residence. Soon, an FIR was registered at Pahadishareed police station and Mohan Babu was booked by police. Additionally, orders were issued to seize firearms from Mohan Babu and Manchu Vishnu as a precautionary measure.

The Manchu family dispute came out in the open when Mohan Babu filed a police complaint against his youngest son, Manchu Manoj, and his wife, Mounika, on December 9 stating that he feared for his safety and Manoj and his wife had forcibly occupied his home. He alleged that the couple wanted to seize his residence in Jalpally, Hyderabad.
