On Tuesday, chaos erupted at veteran actor Mohan Babu’s Jalpalli residency. Manchu Manoj, Mohan Babu’s younger son, tried to barge into the residency with media. But he was met with resistance. He alleged that his daughter was kept inside the house. When Manoj confronted Mohan Babu’s staff with media, Mohan Babu reacted aggressively and thrashed a journalist from TV9. The act was caught on camera and visibly Mohan Babu beat up the journalist with a steel pipe and the journalist’s mic. The journalist is reported to have suffered injuries in the zygomatic bone area near his eye and ear.
Mohan Babu’s team conveyed that the actor also suffered injuries to his head and was admitted to hospital with medical tests underway. Mohan Babu’s PR team released an audio from the actor accusing his son of spiralling the ongoing family dispute out of control. He urged his son to stop the fight against the family.
Following the incident, the journalists protested outside Mohan Babu’s residence. They have also called for a protest today. Based on a complaint from the victim, an FIR was registered by the Pahadishareef police station under Section 118(1) (Voluntarily causing hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Mohan Babu has been booked by the police.
Meanwhile, actor Manchu Vishnu who was in Dubai, was spotted at the airport. During a brief media interaction, he said that these were just family disputes and that they would get sorted.
In response to the brewing tensions, senior police officers have issued notices to Mohan Babu, Manchu Manoj and Manchu Vishnu requiring them to appear for questioning at 10:30 AM on Wednesday. Also, orders have been issued to seize firearms from Mohan Babu and Manchu Vishnu as a precautionary measure.
The Manchu family dispute came out in the open when Mohan Babu filed a police complaint against his youngest son, Manchu Manoj, and his wife, Mounika, on December 9 stating that he feared for his safety and Manoj and his wife had forcibly occupied his home. He alleged that the couple wanted to seize his residence in Jalpally, Hyderabad. In a counter complaint, Manoj alleged that ten unidentified people entered his house on Sunday night and when he confronted them, there was a fight during which he sustained injuries.
More details are yet to be out about the issue.
