Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma was recently booked for posting defamatory content on social media against the AP chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and the deputy chief minister and actor Pawan Kalyan and several others during the previous regime under YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. The Shiva director has been reported to be absconding by several media outlets and that the police have been trying to track him.
However on Monday, the director interacted with media and said, “There was never any evidence or discussion that police were trying to arrest me. Yes, I received a notice but I requested a stay owing to my film commitments. I applied for anticipatory bail because I suspect foul play by the ones who filed the case. That is my right as a citizen. Meanwhile, the media created the narrative that ‘RGV is absconding and hiding in fear.’ Which is not at all the truth.”
When asked what would his steps be if the police finds tangible evidence to arrest him, the Kshana Kshanam director said, “If the police come with proper arrest warrants, I will get arrested. If I go to jail, I will spend time with criminals and write 4-5 good stories. Wherever we are put, as human beings, we need to adapt.”
Ram Gopal Varma was granted relief from the high court on Monday and the court has deferred further proceedings in the cases filed against him until December 9. The court also urged the AP police not to take any coercive action until the next hearing.
