We have earlier reported about how the All-India distribution rights of 800, a Tamil film based on the life and career of cricketer Muttiah Muralidharan, have been acquired by Sivalenka Prasad. The makers of the film have announced that cricketer VVS Laxman will be gracing the Telugu pre-release event of 800 as its chief guest. The event will be taking place on September 25. 800 is all set to release in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi on October 6.
800 is directed by MS Sripathy. Booker Prize Laureate and Sri Lankan writer Shehan Karunatilaka has written the film, Slumdog Millionaire-fame actor Madhur Mittal is playing Muttaiah Muralidharan in the film. It may be noted that Vijay Sethupathi was earlier said to star in the film as Muralidharan, but he stepped back from the film following backlash from Tamil netizens who disapproved of this decision.
Mahima Nambiar is the film's female lead of the film, playing the role of Muralidharan’s wife Madhimalar. Naren, Nasser, Vel Rammurthy, Rithvika, Arul Das, Hari Krishnan and Sharath Lohithaswa form the supporting cast of the film.
The film was shot in Chennai, Chandigarh and Kochi, in addition to international locations like Sri Lanka, England and Australia. Ghibran is the music director of the film. RD Rajasekhar is the film’s cinematographer, with editing by Praveen KL.
