Venu Udugula pens note as Virata Parvam turns one

Virata Parvam, a romantic drama set against the backdrop of the Naxal movement in 1990s Telangana, was released exactly one year ago. Reflecting on the bittersweet journey of the film vis-a-vis its success (and lack therof, respectively) on critical and commercial fronts, Venu Udugula took to social media to pens a note reflecting on the film's journey post-release, while thanking his team.

“One year has elapsed since the release of Virata Parvam. It is safe to say that the person I was before Virata Parvam came out and the person I became after the film released are two different people. Virata Parvam has garnered the love and appreciation of many intellectuals and progressive people. At the same time, I got a taste of the market's beatings. I felt as though a mine had exploded under my feet. I had sleepless nights for a few months. This dichotomy got me thinking. It revealed the need for me to reexamine my relationship with the audience. Virata Parvam has inspired me to understand more about my creative personality. That is why this film has been a journey of self discovery for me. It is a preamble of sorts, for the films I will make ahead. I want to thank my audience, the family of Tumu Saralakka (on whom the film is based on) and the cast and crew who has been a part of my film, as well as the media and the critics. Thank you,” he wrote.

The film stars Rana Daggubati, Sai Pallavi, Priyamani, Naveen Chandra, Zarina Wahab and Rahul Ramakrishna among others. It was Venu’s second film after Needhi Naadhi Oke Katha. Virata Parvam was produced by Sudhakar Cherukuri under the banner Sri Lakshmi Venkateshwara Cinemas and distributed by Rana's home banner Suresh Productions, with music by Suresh Bobbili, cinematography by Dani Sanchez-Lopez and Divakar Mani and editing by A Sreekar Prasad. While the film received positive reviews that appreciate the story, direction, technical aspects and Sai Pallavi's performance — it did not fare well commercially.
