Baby, a romantic drama that released on Friday, has earned a gross collection of Rs 7.1 crores on the day of its release. The film was reportedly made on a budget of Rs 5 crores. 

The film stars Vaishnavi Chaitanya, Anand Deverakonda and Viraj Ashwin in central roles, with Harsha Chemudu, Naga Babu Konidela, Kusuma Degalamarri, Lirisha, Sathvik Anand, Babloo, Seetha, Mounika and Keerthana playing supporting roles. It is written and directed by filmmaker and producer Sai Rajesh Neelam, who has earlier been associated with films like Kobbari Matta, Hrudaya Kaleyam and Colour Photo. 

Baby is a story of Vaishnavi (Vaishnavi Chaitanya), whose life changes for the worse when she goes to college. Viraj Ashwin and Anand Deverakonda play the roles of her friend and boyfriend respectively. All the characters in the film have been given their own real life names.

It opened to mixed to negative reviews, leaving its viewers extremely polarised. The film received appreciation from certain sections of the audience for its relatable storytelling, acting and music while getting flak from a more politically correct set of viewers for its use of misogynistic slurs, depiction of sexual violence, battery and self harm. There have also been criticisms levied against the film’s runtime of 177 minutes.

Baby is produced by SKN and co-produced by Dheeraj Mogineni under the banner Mass Movie Makers, with music by Vijai Bulganin, cinematography by MN Bal Reddy and editing by Viplav Nyshadam.
