Chiranjeevi: K Viswanath was my mentor and father figure

Actor Chiranjeevi wrote a poignant condolence note for K Viswanath, one of Tollywood’s greatest filmmakers.

In a short but succinctly worded message, he wrote, “This is a deeply sad day. I am not able to process the news of Kalathapasvi Viswanath garu’s demise, who was my mentor and father figure. Words aren't enough to explain his greatness. He can even enthral sages and gods with his work. His ability to make deeply sensitive and artistic films, while turning them into blockbusters is truly matchless. With his films, he took the pride and greatness of the Telugu people to the entire world."

He went on to share the experiences he had while working on his films Subhalekha, Swayamkrushi and Aapadbandhavudu. "Even outside work, we shared a personal relationship. He was the teacher and I was his disciple. Working with him is an educational experience for any actor. His films are like a guidebook for other filmmakers."

Chiranjeevi ended his note drawing a reference to Viswanath's  Sankarabharanam, which was released exactly 43 years ago. "I guess that is why Sankara himself took him to Kailasa on the same day as his abharanam (jewel). The void he leaves in the hearts of the Telugu people and the Indian film industry can never be filled. My heart goes out to Viswanath garu’s family and his countless fans, I hope his soul rests in peace.”
