The makers of Matka have announced on Thursday that they have commenced principal production. The film, starring Varun Tej and Meenakshi Chaudhary in the lead roles, is written and directed by Karuna Kumar.
Karuna has previously directed Palasa 1978 (2020) and Sridevi Soda Center (2021). Matka is a film based on the Matka gambling scams that rocked the country in the 20th century. The film is set between the years 1958 and 1982. Varun Tej will be seen in four different looks in the film. It is the actor's biggest film to date. A massive set has been constructed in the city, where crucial scenes are currently being shot. While Varun Tej’s upcoming film Operation Valentine is scheduled for a February 16 release, Meenakshi will be seen next in Guntur Kaaram opposite Mahesh Babu.
Matka also stars Nora Fatehi, Naveen Chandra, Kannada Kishore, Ravindra Vijay, Satyam Rajesh, Ravi Shankar, Ajay Ghosh, Roopa Lakshmi and Avinash Kanaparthi. The film is produced by Dr Vijayendra Reddy Teegala and Mohan Cherukuri (CVM) under the banner Vyra Entertaintainments. The banner’s maiden film Hi Nanna is currently running in the theatres. A Kishor Kumar (Thangalaan) is Matka's cinematographer, with editing provided by Karthika Srinivas R (Pushpa: The Rise). GV Prakash Kumar (Aakasame Nee Haddura, Darling) is composing the film’s music. Matka will also feature a host of high-end action sequences, which will be supervised by four fight masters.
